Mental Health Initiatives Across Campus!

Hello Everyone!

Mental Health Awareness is one of my major focuses for this term. I  have been working with groups across campus on their initiatives surrounding Mental Health and Wellness. Here are three initiatives that you can be a part of to promote Mental Wellness!

Spin for Mental Health
This is an initiative running during Mental Health Wellness Day on Tuesday, October 20th. During the event teams of students, faculty, and staff are invited to cycle on stationary bikes to promote mental wellness on campus. EngSoc is trying to put an engineering team (or 2!) together for the event. There is a minimum biking time of 20 minutes.

Whiteboard Campaign
EngSoc will be in the CPH Foyer over the next two weeks collecting photos for this year’s Mental Health Wellness Day whiteboard campaign. We will be taking photos of students holding whiteboards with their answers to questions about mental health and wellness. Look for us between 11:30 and 1:30. Exact dates TBD.

MATES Program Volunteering
MATES (Mentor Assistance Through Educational Support) is a student outreach program which seeks to promote personal life balance, self confidence, resiliency and academic support for UW students who are currently having academic, social, physical, emotional, cultural, and / or psychological difficulties. I have been working with Counselling services to try to facilitate this program within engineering, but we want to make sure that there is student interest. If you are interested in volunteering with this program, please send me an email!

Thank you so much for your support of these initiatives! If you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact me!
