Novelties is the official Waterloo Engineering Society Swag Store, and the best place on campus to buy all kinds of engineering novelty items. Novelties is open from 11:30 to 1:30 during the week all term long. It’s located in CPH Foyer, directly next to POETS. Though the store may look small from the outside, you will be surprised just how much merchandise there is available for sale. From t-shirts, hoodies, and pajama pants, to glassware, hats and scarves, and lots of patches, Novelties has it all. To see a full list of the merchandise available, be sure to check out the Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/uwengsocnovelties. The store is constantly getting in new items, and if you have any ideas for new swag, then please let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Periodically throughout a term Novelties may hold a fire sale to help clear out old merchandise and make room for new things. Be sure to keep an eye out for these sales!
Thanks to our new Square POS, Novelties accepts cash, credit, and debit. If you can’t make it to the store during open hours, send an email to email@example.com, or stop by the Orifice (CPH 1327) between 8:30 and 4:30 and we can organize a time to let you in to buy some merchandise.
The Engineering Society Office is the main headquarters for the Society. We offer many different office services and supplies including printing and work report binding. You can find the price lists below. In addition there is a large collection of board games, card games, and puzzles that students may borrow, along with pool equipment for the POETS pool tables.
Stop by with any questions for your Engineering Society Executive, for printing and binding services, or to say hello to our Business Manager, Mary Bland!
The Orifice is also the place where you can get your Student Deals sticker, buy tickets to any and all upcoming EngSoc events, as well as learn more about everything the Society is working on. The front desk is staffed at all times while the Orifice is open, and students are welcome to come and chat with an Engineering Society representative at any time. You will typically find at least one Executive sitting at their desk and they are always happy to answer questions or address your concerns.

RidgidWare is the Engineering Society’s electronic components and hardware shop. Previously located in CPH Foyer, RidgidWare now finds its home in E7, right next to the new Engineering Coffee and Donut Shop. The new location is spacious and includes several shelving and drawer units to hold more items than ever before. RidgidWare is conveniently located on campus for those who don’t want to wait for online orders or deal with the hassle of finding stores off-campus.
RidgidWare’s goal is to be a one stop shop for any electronically-related project you might have, whether you need advice, parts, or ideas. RidgidWare has recently partnered with the Sedra Student Design Centre and some departments to that end. These partnerships will bring some programs electronic lab kits into RidgidWare so you can easily restock malfunctioning or burnt-out parts, and will bring a much greater variety of stock, possibly including loanable tools and other materials, such as copper, stainless steel, and others that can be used in the Student Machine Shop’s nearby locations. So whether you need resistors and breadboards for your lab, LEDs for your research project, or an Arduino for a personal project, you’ll be able to find what you need in RidgidWare. Hobbyists and amateurs are more than welcome, as we will be employing a number of upper-year students with circuits, materials, and programming experience (mainly from SYDE, ECE, and MME) to offer expert advice and to run workshops for those looking to learn a thing or two. Be sure to stop by RidgidWare and take a look around once it’s up and running this Fall.
